Nursery through Kindergarten
is housed at 11 East 89th Street, while the Elementary School
division resides at 4 East 90th Street. The Middle and Upper
Schools are located at 1 West 88th Street.
Through group activities that
capitalize on their love of learning and innate curiosity,
children in the Early Childhood division (Nursery
–Kindergarten) learn developmentally-appropriate
skills, begin to develop critical-thinking, and explore different
cultures through the foreign language program (French and
Spanish). Students in the Elementary School division
(Grades 1 – 5) further develop their
academic and problem-solving skills using traditional tools
as well as computers to support their in-class work. Trevor
Day School's AfterSchool program, ENCORE, runs daily from
3:00-6:30 pm for Kindergarten to fifth grade students.
Beginning in
Grade 3, students participate in Outdoor Education using
a number of New York State facilities, including Clearpool,
Black Rock Forest, and Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center
on Shelter Island to do team-building activities and environmental
studies. Starting in Grade 5, students use their own laptop
computers in virtually all areas of their academic study.
In the Middle
School (Grades 6 – 8), when students’
attitudes about learning and self-esteem are most challenged,
Trevor supports their intellectual and social growth with
a unique advisory program and a school life that is centered
in the Common Room, a common space shared by students and
faculty that facilitates collaboration. Middle School students
can participate in a variety of AfterSchool activities including
athletics, music conservatory, and martial arts.
In the High School
(Grades 9 – 12), students pursue a vigorous
college-preparatory program that cultivates independent thought
and imaginative problem solving. Students continue to participate
in a rich visual and performing arts program. The large student/faculty
High School Center serves as the heart of the division and
makes collaboration between and among students and faculty
possible. The state-of-the-art Science Center for Grades 8
through 12 reflects an innovative approach to science that
emphasizes active problem-solving and inquirybased learning.
Community service, which continues to be an integral part
of our students learning experience, culminates in an 80-hour
requirement, with opportunity for individual and group projects.
As a member of several athletic leagues, Trevor teams compete
in soccer, volleyball, cross-counrty, basketball, softball,
tennis, track and field, and baseball.
Trevor Day School invites
children of all races, religions, national and ethnic backgrounds
to apply for admission. A financial aid program supports approximately
20% of the student population (Kindergarten - Grade 12), which
is drawn from all parts of New York City.
