For more than 90 years, Trevor Day School has been educating students in a supportive and immersive environment.  Known for making learning a positive experience, our school focuses on strong academic achievement, as well as the social and emotional development of our students – a commitment to the whole child, student engagement, and the creation of balanced lives with purpose.

In our efforts to proactively address the well-being of our community  Trevor recently recruited additional Health & Wellness faculty to design and implement an intersectional and comprehensive Health & Wellness curriculum specific to the Trevor Community.

With an initial focus on Middle and Upper school students, our Health & Wellness Program fosters a safe space for students to learn about:

Middle School
  • Mental & Emotional Health
    • Identifying, expressing, and managing a variety of emotions. Developing a healthy self image. Engaging with social media.
  • Social Health
    • Developing healthy relationships. Responding to peer pressure and bullying. Building empathy towards peers.
  • Physical Health
    • Understanding negative effects of substance abuse. Creating a healthy relationship with food. Prioritizing movement and rest. Puberty, contraception, and consent
Upper School
  • Mental & Emotional Health
    • Students possess an increased ability to reason, execute decisions, and write with complexity when addressing such issues as anxiety, stress, and procrastination.
  • Social Health
    • Teens strive for self-sufficiency, and are able to voice emotions to creatively problem solve regarding relationships. Relating to parents and guardians as young adults is key to achieving a state of independence.
  • Physical Health
    • The need for sleep increases to elevate brain health and appetite also elevates to support the process of physical maturation. Coordination, agility, and total body strength develop fully at this stage of human growth.

Inside a Health & Wellness Class

  • Every Health & Wellness class begins with a 5-10 minute meditation or mindfulness exercise for students to carry into their everyday lives.
  • Classes are designed to be practical and hands-on. Each class, students will learn a new skill and actually practice it in class.
  • The curriculum is flexible and adjusts to the specific needs of Trevor students. Throughout the school year we adjust the order of lessons based on the specific needs that we are seeing within the Middle or Upper School students.
  • The classroom transforms into a safe space where students can recalibrate and express themselves emotionally, mentally, and physically.
  • Discussions and asking questions in an open forum are intentional class formats, instrumental to learning dimensions of Health & Wellness.
