Service
Learning in Grades 9 - 12 |
Service Expectations:
Every student in the High School
is expected to complete 20 hours of in-school/out-of-school service
each year.
Grade Level Projects:
- The entire School dedicates
a day of service in Carl Schutz Park (East End Avenue, between
90th and 79th
Streets).
- Grade 9 has developed a close relationship
with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The grade participates
in and organizes a school-wide fundraising and awareness program.
- Grade 10 adopted NAAR (National Association
of Autism Research) as its grade level project. Over 50 students
served as volunteers and participants in the NAAR WALK in lower
Manhattan.
- Grade 11 was
responsible for organizing a school-wide education and participation
program
revolving
around
the Annual Aids Walk (Gay Men’s Heath Crisis). In 2004,
2005 and again in 2006 Trevor was recognized as The First
Place Fundraising
Team
from a School or University with more than 200
students
participating and raising over $100,000 to date.
- Grade 12 serve
as student ambassadors and develop individual service initiatives.
- The Admissions Committee (students volunteer
to tour prospective students and parents and also participate
in admission open house panels.)
- The Development Committee (students volunteer
to reach out to alumni and parents via phonations,
mailings and organizing school wide events.)
- Individual
Student Initiatives (students have
volunteered at over 100 Service Learning organizations
over the past few years. In
the last two years, students volunteered
in all five boroughs, 15 states
and 6 countries. Seventy five percent
of the High School students
surpassed
our 20-hour expectation. Trevor Day
School students completed over
10,000 measured hours of service
in 2005. Fifteen
students
completed over 100 hours. Trevor
has made connections
and impacts at numerous
organizations.)
