Trevor Day School Service Learning Mission
Trevor aims to help students develop a sense of responsibility
for their community, including not only the school but the larger
community as well. The program is designed to help students appreciate
the value of helping others and increase awareness and understanding
of the local community and the structure and service institutions
that make up the community. The Service Learning program also
aims to promote diversity of ideas, experiences and cultures. The
program
is primarily activity based with a focus on teamwork and strong
relationships.
The school provides online resources to help...
- ...agencies and faculty offer service opportunities
to students
- ...students find out about new service opportunities
- ...students
track
their hours
and
- to help administrators and teachers to assign
hours to students.
Service Expectations (grades 6-12):
Every student in the Middle School and High School
is expected to complete 20 hours of in-school/out-of-school service
each year.
The School also sponsors Community Projects for Parents,
Teachers and Students. Since 2003 Trevor
Day School has participated in a number of community
New York City Park Clean Up Programs:
- Morningside Park (2003)
- Fort Tryon Park (2004)
- Carl Schutz Park (2005 and 2006)
- Riverside Park (2005 and 2006)
Parents, students and faculty also participate in
the Annual Red Cross Blood Drive which is coordinated through the
school.
