Welcome

Welcome to this unique Admissions season!

We hope that by exploring our website, reading our materials, and interacting with our community, you will gain a comprehensive sense of who we are.

The Trevor team is looking forward to meeting your family. We hope each interaction provides you with meaningful engagement and helpful information.

Application Procedures

List of 9 items.

  • Age Requirements

When creating a class, we carefully consider the many dimensions of a balanced early learning or elementary classroom—including students’ gender, personality, diversity, ability, and age range. We give close attention to each child’s development as well as the class configuration. General birthday guidelines are listed below. We are happy to discuss your child’s age and placement at your Child Visit and Parent Meeting.

    Pre-K applicants:
Applicants to Pre-K must turn four by August 31st of the year they hope to enter Trevor. (Birthday between September 1, 2016 –August 31, 2017)

    Kindergarten applicants:

    Grades 1–5 applicants:

  • Adult Meeting/Applicant Meeting

We will contact you to schedule your TeleAdmissions Adult Meeting/Applicant Meeting. Typically this will happen at least 24 hours after you have submitted the Application, and as soon as we are able to reach you.

All of our families Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 5 will have two separate meetings: one for the candidate and one for their adult(s). We will be as flexible as possible when scheduling.
We have thoughtfully designed each experience for the applicants. Know that each member of our Admissions team has been a classroom teacher and is a parent. Each grade level is different; please read carefully.

Nursery: Each applicant and their adult(s) meeting will include a conversation, a few developmentally appropriate tasks, and a time for questions.

Adult meetings for Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 5: Adult(s) will be offered a 30-minute meeting to share information and ask questions.

Applicant Writing for Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 5: Each applicant will complete writing during their meeting. Please take a picture of the work and email it to LSAdmissions@trevor.org promptly after the meeting with the applicant’s name and grade in the subject line.

Pre-Kindergarten: Each applicant will be scheduled for a 30-minute meeting.

Kindergarten: Each applicant will have the option of taking part in The Thinking and Engagement Assessment or scheduling a 45-minute meeting with a member of the Trevor Admissions team.
Grades 1‒5: Every applicant will be scheduled for a 50-minute meeting.

Given the changing set of circumstances, we will not be offering in person meetings or tours. We hope to offer in person meetings at some point. Should the opportunity arise, we will communicate as promptly as possible.
  • The Thinking & Engagement Assessment (Kindergarten Option)

Each applicant will have the option of taking part in the Thinking and Engagement Assessment (Click for details) or scheduling a 45-minute meeting with a member of the Trevor Admissions team.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the constraints that it will impose on the running of schools during the 2020-2021 academic year, a group of New York City Independent School Admission Directors enlisted the help of two experts in early childhood development--each with over forty years of experience in working with children as they learn, grow, and transition to Kindergarten. The Admission Directors asked that these two psychologists develop a virtual assessment to serve the needs and interests of Kindergarten applicants, their families, and schools.

The goal was twofold: to put minimal pressure on young children and families during this unprecedented time and to provide our Admission Committees with information about children when schools would not be able to meet and observe them in person.

The T&E Assessment is a stop gap solution for the 2020-2021 admission season. This common assessment provides families with the ability to apply to multiple schools but forgo the burden of multiple virtual assessments. Instead, applicants to participating schools engage in one common assessment, the results of which are shared with schools to which the family has applied and that accept and/or require the T&E Assessment.
  • Opportunities to Visit

To view the schedule and register for these events please visit: www.ravenna-hub.com.

Given the changing set of circumstances, we will not be offering in person meetings or tours. We hope to offer in person meetings at some point. Should the opportunity arise, we will communicate as promptly as possible.
  • Confidential School Report Form (ISAAGNY Form)

The confidential school report form may be sent via Ravenna directly to your child’s school and returned directly to the Admissions office. You will be able to request appropriate forms through Ravenna by assigning the form to a teacher/administrator via email. We welcome past reports, transcripts, and records whenever possible. Please email them to lsadmissions@trevor.org with the applicant’s name in the subject line. All completed forms are due by Friday, January 8, 2021.

A transcript release form may be required by your child’s current school to allow the transmission of previous reports. You may print the form and share it with your child’s school, as necessary.
  • Testing

After a thorough consideration, Trevor has implemented a one-year suspension of both the requirement and consideration of ISEE Primary, ISEE and/or SSAT test scores in our Lower School Admissions process. This decision eliminates the possibility of unequal access to these exams.
  • Financial Aid

We encourage families applying to Nursery through 5th grade to complete the TADS (Tuition Aid Data Services) Financial Aid application as soon as possible after submission of the Application for Admission. The deadline is December 1st. TADS applications will be available online at www.tads.com beginning October 1st. There is a single $34 fee of to submit a TADS application, regardless of how many schools receive the financial aid summary report. There are no fee waivers for TADS applications. The Tuition and Financial Aid page of Trevor’s website provides additional information about our Financial Aid program.
  • ISAAGNY Notification Dates

Trevor Day School complies with the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) common notification dates. Decisions will be posted in your Ravenna account.
