Physical Education
Physical Education and Lifelong Fitness
The physical education facilities include two state-of-the-art gymnasiums, a cardio- and strength-training center, and a multipurpose space in which core, flexibility, spin, and yoga classes are taught. The primary goals of Trevor’s physical education program are to teach the whole child and positively affect each student’s self-image and confidence, as they develop coordination, athletic skills, and the understanding of teamwork in an emotionally and physically safe environment. Physical education classes use a variety of games and activities to pursue skill mastery, fitness, cooperation, group dynamics, problem solving, and ethics. Students are instructed through proper warm-up and appropriate fitness concepts.
Three periods of physical education are required for each student per 10-day academic cycle, unless noted otherwise.
All students who participate on a junior varsity or a varsity team are exempt from physical education for that season. Students in grades 10–12 can choose to enroll in dance to fulfill their physical education requirement. Physical education elective options include:
Team Sports
This class is designed for students who are interested in learning the skills and strategies of team sports. This course includes daily skill instruction and implementation of those skills into a competitive game setting. Sports may include, but are not limited to, hockey, flag football, and Ultimate Frisbee. This course also includes daily cardiovascular fitness.
Racket Sports/Recreational Games
This course is broken down by semester. The first semester consists of a variety of sports, including tennis, badminton, pickleball, and racquetball. The second semester consists of a variety of recreational games, including Pirate Ball, Color War, and Dodge Pinball.

This course focuses on the development of basic yoga poses, breathing practices, stretching, and relaxation techniques as a method to improve flexibility, decrease stress, and improve physical and mental well-being. This class also includes other forms of strength training, toning, and conditioning, plus a cardiovascular activity every day. Occasionally, this class meets before school.
Fitness/Body Sculpting
This course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop musculoskeletal and cardiovascular fitness through weight training, circuit training, spinning, flexibility training, core strengthening, and plyometrics. Students also develop the techniques required to maximize the body’s repair after strenuous training sessions by learning the importance of hydration, proper nutrition, stretching, stress management, and sleep.
High Performance Physical Education
High performance physical education is designed to allow students of higher skill levels, stronger motivation, and more compatible playing strategies to compete in individual and team PE competitions.
Standard Physical Education
Standard Physical Education is a traditional PE class that includes individual sports, team sports, and fitness opportunities. This class is less competitive than the High Performance elective.
Advanced Fitness
This advanced class provides highly motivated students an opportunity to develop a personal wellness program to improve their fitness and conditioning. In addition to their fitness regimen, educational topics may include sound principles in exercise physiology, anatomy, and nutrition. Students meet twice a cycle, once as a group and once with the instructor to reflect on and reexamine their personal fitness program. This advanced class is designed for the self-motivated student who is driven to follow their fitness plan individually and outside of school hours. All interested students need to complete an application process and be approved for entrance to the Advanced Fitness class. Spaces are limited.
